Did you know that about 1.5 billion searches are carried out on Facebook every day! Until now, Facebook search results only included posts from users’ friends and family members. A recent change now means that the search results will include posts from the entire Facebook universe, which consists of more than two trillion posts to date.
“Search results are organised to help you cut through the noise and quickly understand what the world is saying about a topic in the moment,” said Tom Stocky, Facebook’s head of search. Read Tom’s full blog post about the new update here.
So what does it mean for the marketing industry?
– Consumers are used to heading straight to Google to resolve their queries, get news updates, advice, etc. However, with the new update, Facebook will become a very important player in search marketing.
– With Search FYI, Facebook users will have a new way to discover content and companies have a new way to reach new users, which is great for Facebook pages who share unique, time sensitive content.
– The change will not only result in finding a source of new referral traffic for marketers, but could also help community mangers grow their audiences on Facebook.
